Kathy Lund, a wife, mother, and grandmother, was crowned Chula Vista’s Best Shopper Saturday, March 11 at Terra Nova Plaza. Lund and the four other contest finalists each won $500 to prove their shopping expertise today in a three-hour shopping contest at Terra Nova Plaza. Lund won an additional $1,000 and the Chula Vista Best Shopper title.
The Finalists were selected from contest entry essays on “Why I’m Chula Vista Best Shopper.” The other four finalists, who each spent their $500 winnings shopping at Terra Nova Plaza include Brittany Aguon, Patrick Miller, Laurie Russell and Alexis Ybarra.
Kathy Lund, the contest winner, is a real estate agent. Her contest entry stressed the importance of shopping local, in-store rather than on-line, to help the local economy. She plans on spending some of her contest winnings to shop her husband, Josh, three children and three grandchildren.
The judges, Kevin Alston, a finance and business professor at Southwestern Community College, Jennifer Rosson, a Professional Shopper and Stylist, and Marcy Weaver, Chula Vista Chamber CEO, viewed the finalist purchases to select Kathy Lund as the winner.
At the 3 p.m. winner announcement ceremony on March 11, the City of Chula Vista presented Terra Nova Plaza with a Certificate of appreciation for hosting this event. Cynthia Gonzalez, Terra Nova Plaza Senior Marketing Director, who accepted the Certificate said, “We held this contest to show the importance of smart shopping. We look forward to sharing the tips from the contest Finalists with our shoppers.”
